Paul spent his childhood in Rillington in Yorkshire. Phyllis lived in Ashford, Middlesex where her father had a hardware store. Phyllis and Paul met while studying at the University of Leeds. Ben,their eldest son, was born in Leeds, and Sam, Charli and Tom were all born in Watford, Hertfordshire.
