Was a popular member of the family. Was once engaged to b e married but broke it off when her parents disapproved (th ought because her fiance once visited the house with a smel l of liquor on his breath) and never married. When she die d a locket was found with her fiance's photo in it.
Known to her nieces & nephews as "Auntie Mannie."
Died from "Panama Fever" [malaria?] contracted on voyage fr om Canada to NZ.
Stillborn.
Supposedly went to South African war but his name does no t appear among the alpha list of Contingents to the Boer Wa r. Supposed subsequently to have gone to Argentina and nev er returned to New Zealand, although the family heard fro m him by mail from time to time.

Started work in a bank (?Dunedin), was later at Waihi a s a stationary (steam) engine driver, hauling logs out of t he bush. Married a cook from the Waihi Hotel [from the dat es of childrens' births, she was obviously pregnant]. Abou t 1917 went to Dargaville to work at a mill there with a fr iend, a Mr Nesbit, but the mill failed. There was little wo rk available and he worked on gum-washing machines at vario us places in the north until his health failed. He was a s evere asthmatic. Hiswife Marion had to work in market gard ens and milk cows to help keep the large family. They ha d to move house several times as the gum diggers moved fro m place to place. Last lived at Black Swamp, Te Kopuru, No rthland. He was found dead in Albert St, Auckland, from hea rt failure. Had been told by his doctor that he had onl y a few weeks to live. (Information from his daughter Verno r Roberts, Waiheke Island, 1991).
Was a cook at the Waihi Hotel at marriage. Worked in the m arket gardens and milked cows to help support family. Husb and was 45 years older and died after only 13 years of marr iage, leaving her with seven children. She also sewed an d was sewing teacher at Red Hill School. Later moved to T e Kopuru and the children finished their eduction there an d at Dargaville High School. She was a "wonderful" cook an d baked for her neighbours until the year before she died a t the age of 92 (apple pies and custard tarts). In her lat er years she lived at Glen Eden with her sons William Alexa nder and Ernest Graham. (Information from her daughter Vern or Roberts, Waiheke Island, 1991).
Never married. Lived with his mother and worked at the Man gawhare Dairy Factory. Died at age 70.
Occupation plasterer and block layer. Also served in the w ar. Did not marry. Was an asthmatic. Suffered a heart att ack.
Served in Pacific in World War II and had a rehab. farm whe n he returned. Was an asthmatic and died of a heart attac k in Dargaville Hospital. Had three children.
