Living with aunt; by now mother has died and father remarried. He didn't get on with step-mother and also lived for a time with grandfather Bowd in Hemingford Abbot. However, this was not successful either.

Joined Metropolitan Police on 15 December 1913
His father gave him the fare to London, but not for a return trip. He was interested in the police by a relative - possibly Ivor Upson.

Became a Freemason 11 Feb 1931 in the Victoria Diamond Jubilee Lodge, London

Served in Z (Croydon) Division when retired as Inspector on 2 Aug 1942, age 52
Height 5ft 9 3/4 inches
"Light brown hair, blue eyes, slim build"
