NB
P Division was then situated to the South East of London and included parts of Kent.

At that time the only way out of the job was to be too sick to continue hence the reference to VERTIGO as the reason for leaving. The medical reasons were often a euphemism for more serious conditions. This one could have been a symptom of many conditions however it could be due to high blood pressure or some other undiagnosed disease. It could also have been stress related, the job in those days was quite stressful. Many of these officers with Vertigo later died of strokes."
